Coaching and Mentoring can be understood as being at opposite ends of a continuum of professional support. At Educe, we maintain flexibility in our work, moving back and forth along this continuum, according to the evolving needs of each individual client.
Coaching
Coaching can be described as facilitated self-learning involving a series of one-to-one sessions, where a careful balance of questioning, active listening and appropriate challenge are deployed to allow those being coached (coachees) to identify and work towards goals.
Mentoring
Mentoring is defined as expert support, often provided to professionals who are new in their roles, where the focus is on the offering of advice and sharing of knowledge.

Our approach
We take a pragmatic and outcome oriented approach to coaching and mentoring. As well as being accredited coaches, our team have experience of working in leadership positions in schools. This is important because we understand the pressures and challenges, as well as the rewards of school leadership. We bring this knowledge to our coaching, which means that we are able to exercise an empathetic approach and also offer practical suggestions and guidance as and when it is appropriate. We see coaching and mentoring as practical and rigorous, not fluffy and ‘new-age’, as can sometimes be perceived.
